The first prints of the 2nd issue will be printed at the end of the week and be available this coming week :) since it's been a while in the making it's been referred to as the Time Capsule edition. I'll keep you updated!

Letter from the Editor

After a long hiatus, I decided I NEEDED to come back to making the zine. A large part of it being that my child is finally getting to the age where she doesn't need constant supervision (in moderation). Being part of a subculture that requires you to be present, couple with the commitment of being a working mother, has had its toll on my art, mind, body, and overall well being. One of the things not mentioned much (since it's mostly a youth culture, no matter how many old folks there are) is simply the implications of being a biological woman in a male dominated scene. I felt invisible after my child was born. My fiance didn't experience as much seclusion; the expectation being that the child could be left with me, perhaps? Because of this, I had to reassert myself into the circle. I love this subculture and it is important to me to reestablish my sense of self before my child.

All of the pieces clicked into place through ardent Netflix watching (believe it or not). I watched the documentary "Tricked," which is about women who were forced into prostitution. One of the main women, recovering from years of abuse joined roller derby because it was full of people who didn't judge her past; depsite her new found acceptance, she was constantly changing her hair because she was uncomfortable in her own skin and the person that looked back at her. Hope and companionship through other women helped a lot but the main drive was the commitment to herself to not let anyone but her define her role. After watching this I was filled with *feminist rage* for the abuse that was inflicted on these girls and women, but on the other hand, there was a silver lining: all the survivors had made a life that's THEIRS and no longer let life just happen to them.

Shortly afterwards, I watched "The Punk Singer," a documentary about Kathleen Hanna. For obvious reasons, I related to Kathleen, Riot Grrl, and Bikini Kill. After quitting Le Tigre, she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. During her interviews, she expressed regret about leaving, taking care of herself, and having her voice silenced. Can you imagine? All that she's done and she still wants to do more? It caused a wee bit of self reflection and my reasons for not following through on something people were actually excited about made me sad, ashamed and finally determined to do better. So here we are... I hope you enjoy!
